The Georgia Crisis & Access Line was featured on the cover of the Council of State Governments magazine which is circulated to 15,000 legislators nationwide (Nov/Dec 2008 Issue). The end of the year issue contains the 2008 innovations awards. This is the first time the cover has featured one of the national winners, and BHL is proud of this distinction. BHL's CEO David Covington was again named Vice-Chair. The new group includes three state mental health commissioners and the directors of NASMHPD and NCCBH. Read Dr. John Draper's blog on the selection process (New Steering Committee Members).

Gwen Skinner is fond of saying "Treatment works if you can get it..." Improving Access to Behavioral Health Services appears in this month's Clinician's Research Digest, an APA Journal. The article tracks the history of public sector crisis services industry and GCAL.

Following the Virginia Tech shootings, NBC approached Behavioral Health Link about an interview and tour to highlight crisis services and access to mental health treatment. On April 20, 11 Alive News, Atlanta's NBC affiliate, showcased the Georgia Crisis & Access Line, an innovative collaboration with the Department of Human Resources.

State mental health program directors from 44 states at NASMHPD's Winter Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona heard from BHL and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline about key esearch demonstrating the value of crisis centers during NASMPHD's "Brag & Steal" spotlight.

Over 120 agencies from across the country gathered in New Orleans for the first ever national crisis center conference sponsored by SAMHSA. BHL was honored to receive a Crisis Center Community Engagement Award in the large crisis call center category.

CARF awarded BHL the maximum three year accreditation for the brand new Crisis & Information Call Center credential. BHL also received approval for its Assessment and Referral and Crisis Intervention programs. BHL is the first in the country to receive the Call Center award.
