BHL's integrated crisis services are funded and managed by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities under the leadership of Dr. Frank Shelp.

DBHDD provides comprehensive Mental Health services through a statewide network of Community Mental Health Centers, Crisis Stabilization Programs and State Hospitals. The Georgia Crisis & Access Line links callers directly with these partner programs.

BHL also works closely with Georgia's Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). This statewide initiative is led by NAMI Georgia, the GBI and receives funding from Georgia DBHDD. It's mission is to equip law enforcement officers with the skills to assist people with mental illness in crisis, thereby advancing public safety and reducing stigma.

Peer Supports and Wellness Centers are an alternative and complementary approach to the traditional mental health delivery system. Operated by the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network, they are located in a quiet residential neighborhood outside Decatur and also operate a 24/7 warm line.

Veterans are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan in large numbers, and the VA has added important suicide prevention resources. They have also implemented a suicide hotline for veterans available through 1-800-273-TALK, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which is answered out of Canandaigua, New York.

BHL partnered with DHR's Division of Public Health, Injury Prevention Section, and the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Georgia to win SAMHSA Garret Lee Smith funding for Suicide Prevention in those ages 10 to 24. Sally vander Straeten is the state's Suicide Prevention Coordinator.
