Peer Support & Wellness Centers

5

Peer Support and Wellness Centers are an alternative and complementary approach to the traditional mental health delivery system. The Peer Center is a project of the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network in partnership with the Consumer Relations and Recovery Section of Georgia's DBHDD. They are located in a quiet residential neighborhood outside Decatur and provide a person-centered approach to care and recovery.

In addition to daily activities from 10am until 7:30pm, the Peer Supports and Wellness Center in Decatur also offers respite beds, an important alternative to hospitalization. A person who qualifies may stay in the bed for up to one week at a time.

A 24/7 warm line is available by calling 1-888-945-1414. Certified Peer Specialists are standing by ready to listen and help. Calls are confidential and answered by caring peers who listen respectfully, engage and collaborate.

1BHL believes in self-directed recovery and the resiliency of the person facing a mental health crisis. It is our goal to always utilize the least intrusive intervention in order to optimize the person's functioning in their living, learning, working and social environments. This makes the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network and its Peer Supports and Wellness Center staffed by consumers an excellent partner and tremendous resource.
